The short version

A first visit to YB Osteopathy runs up to 60 minutes and costs £125. In that hour, Yousif takes a full history, examines how your whole body moves, arrives at a working diagnosis, treats you by hand, and sends you away with a plan you actually understand. No GP referral is needed — osteopaths are statutorily regulated, so you can book directly. Follow-up appointments are 30 minutes.

The aim of the first appointment is not just to ease today’s pain. It is to work out why the pain is there in the first place — because the site of the pain and the cause of the pain are often not the same place.

Before you arrive

There is very little to prepare. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing you can move in — the examination looks at how your whole body moves, so easy-to-adjust layers help. Bring details of any medication you take, and any recent scans or letters if you happen to have them, though neither is essential.

YB Osteopathy is inside UNTIL at 111 Charing Cross Road, Soho (WC2H 0DT) — about a three-minute walk from Tottenham Court Road station. Clinic days are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 10:00 to 20:00.

Step 1 — Your case history

The appointment opens with a conversation, not a treatment couch. Yousif takes a full case history: what brought you in, when it started, what makes it better or worse, your work and daily routine, your general health, and your goals. This is where most of the diagnosis is made — the story of a problem usually points to its cause before a hand is laid on you.

Desk-bound, active city lives produce recognisable patterns, and the history is where those patterns surface: the long hours at a screen, the half-marathon you are training for, the old injury you stopped thinking about years ago.

Step 2 — The whole-body examination

Next comes the physical examination. Rather than pressing only on the spot that hurts, Yousif assesses how the whole structure moves and compensates — how the spine, hips, shoulders, and limbs work together. A stiff hip can load a lower back; a restricted shoulder can drive neck pain. Looking at the whole picture is what separates treating the cause from chasing the symptom.

You will be asked to move through a few simple ranges of motion. Each step is explained before it happens, and nothing is done without your understanding and consent.

Step 3 — Your working diagnosis

Before any treatment begins, Yousif explains what he has found in plain terms: what is driving your pain, why it has shown up where it has, and what the realistic outlook is. You should leave the diagnosis part of the appointment knowing exactly what is going on — no jargon, no mystery.

Osteopathy is well suited to musculoskeletal problems: neck, back, shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist pain, postural and repetitive strain, headaches, sports injuries, and hip, knee, ankle, and foot pain. If something falls outside osteopathic care, Yousif will say so and refer you on.

Step 4 — Hands-on treatment

Most first appointments include hands-on treatment on the same day. Osteopathic technique is gentle and tailored to you — easing pain, restoring movement, and improving alignment. Your comfort guides the session throughout: the more at ease you are, the better you tend to respond. Alongside the hands-on work, you will get practical guidance you can use between sessions.

Step 5 — Your plan and follow-up

You leave with a bespoke, well-defined plan covering your diagnosis, your prognosis, and the specific steps that will help you stay pain-free. If a course of treatment makes sense, Yousif will explain how many sessions he expects and why; follow-up appointments are 30 minutes.

Where it helps, he refers you through the in-house network of medical and wellbeing professionals at UNTIL — physiotherapists, trainers, and clinicians under one roof — so you get the right help at the right time.

What it costs

Pricing is deliberately simple. An initial consultation and treatment is £125 and runs up to an hour. Follow-ups are 30 minutes. There are no referral fees and no GP letter to chase — you book directly, and you know the cost before you arrive.

If back, neck, or joint pain has been holding you back, the first appointment is the place to start: an honest assessment, a clear diagnosis, and a plan built around you.
